Making Memories the Moments I Can

These days it's hard dealing with my medical issues and trying to make sure the kids have a normal life. I want to make memories with them and I don't want them to just remember that I was in bed all the time.

So I've made a promise to myself that I would continue to do all the holiday traditions that we have always done even if it means I'm in bed for the rest of the day or days.

Marissa was all about digging in the pumkins, while Roo would not get his hands dirty in any way.

Getting ready to carve the pumkins.

This Hug fest does not occur often.

Soccer Season has Officially Began

And he's loving every minute of it. Marissa is very upset that she has to wait until Spring to play though.

Catching Up

Ruben is going on his third week of Kindergarten. He has transitioned better than I thought he would. He loves school, his teacher, and has a lot of friends.
He is just learning so much so fast. I'm so proud of him. We wake him up but he gets himself dressed with no arguments. He also has his first soccer practice tomorrow.

Marissa misses her big brother like crazy. She starts at around 9 am asking if it is time to pick Ruben up and continues until we pick him up at 2:40.

I am doing better, they finally found a combination of meds that work. But I still have my bad days so I just try to enjoy the good ones that I am given. I volunteer at Roo's school two days a week, this lowers our tuition payment which is great right now with all my meds we have to pay for. And I'm finding I am loving it!

Jose turns 37 on Wed. of this week. I bought him an IPhone for his bd and gave it to him early. He loves that thing.

Mom is having some problems and has been very lethargic lately and talking crazy. I'm a little worried so we are going to see her doc as soon as we can.

Well that is all I can think of for now.

I will leave you with some recent pictures.

Cruisin and Preparing

We found this Barbie battery powered 4 wheeler at a yard sale and Rissa can't quite get the steering right. She had quite a few accidents until I talked her in to letting her brother drive.

She is really going to miss him when he starts Kindergarten this Wed. I can't believe it's already that time. That's a completely different post that I'm not sure I'm even ready to write. I'm not sure where the last five years have went and I am definitely not ready to let go of him for a whole day just yet. It's been hard getting all his school supplies together and ready today. Just a part of motherhood I suppose, it's all about loving them and letting them go.

A Very Booo Time

Well we were all dressed up and trick or treating in Madisonville. I am told that in our neighborhood our neighbors were handing out cupcakes. Cupcakes! Well, Marissa wanted to be a pirate, even though I wanted her to be a ladybug. Ruben was predictably Darth Vader. Enjoy.

I'm a little behind in my postings. These pictures were taken about two weeks ago. I will post Halloween pics later tonight or tomorrow.

The Quotable Ruben

With the addition of Toby, Ruben has come to learn some new words. One word he has recently learned is "fetch". I'm not sure he really knows what fetch means though, but he's sure he knows "fetch".

Kiesha: Ruben, what is "fetch"?

Ruben: Mom... fetch is when you fetch, then go fetch it.

Got that?!

Happy Birthday Baby & Update

Today is, actually it was Jose's birthday. It's 1 AM now the 27th technically.
We ordered in from Jose's favorite Thai place and had cheesecake afterwards. We sang Happy Birthday to him while Marissa looked at us like we had really lost our minds. She wasn't too keen on the Birthday song. She wanted to go straight to the cake!

He got an expensive fountain pen from his Employees at work and was thrilled.
The present we got him has not come in yet but he will love it. I can't reveal it here because he may surprise me and actually pay our blog a visit. :)

This weekend the kids are going to my mom's so we can celebrate our 5 year anniversary on Sat. I want to try and paint Marissa's room this weekend but not sure I should take on a task like that when we should be celebrating.

Roo is playing soccer for the first time and is so excited. His first practice was supposed to be tonight but it was canceled. They rescheduled it for Friday.

Toby is doing great. Marissa continues to climb on his back and scream "Ride!" He hasn't caught on yet but she tries everyday hoping it will be the day he finally gets it.

Well, I'll be sure to post pics from this weekend. I'm heading to bed. Night all. :)

A Week Already

Tomorrow will be one week since Roo started school. I can't believe how fast this week has went by. He is loving school. It took him a while to get used to getting up at 6:30. He has done a lot better since he started going to bed at 7:30. He's not so tired in the mornings now.
He was sent to the naughty room yesterday because he would not leave a little girl's hair alone. I'm sure this is just the beginning.:)
Marissa is not happy about Roo being gone in the mornings. She walks around looking for him and calling his name. I'm sure she will adjust and get used to having Mommy all to herself.
Well I have been recovering from a migraine headache for two days now. I feel a lot better but I'm just so drained from dealing with it.

I'll update more later and I will post pictures of the house. Promise :)

Four Years Ago Today My Life Was Forever Changed

Today my little guy turns 4. It's so hard to believe that 4 years of his life have already went by. Ruben Mateo means "Behold a son, a gift from God" and that is truly what he has been. He has taught me so very much and continues to teach me more everyday. He has the biggest heart of anyone I have ever met and is also the funniest little guy I know. So many times when I am trying to be serious and discipline him he will crack me up and I will not be able to keep a straight face. He has made the last four years so much better and so much brighter than I ever imagined they could be. He has taught me to relax and just have fun and enjoy the moments of my life. Every night I ask him how I got so lucky to get him as my little boy and he just smiles and says "because God gave me to you." Yes, God did give him to me and tonight I thank you God for entrusting such a gift to me. I thank God everyday that I am his mom.

Here are some pictures I took today. His party is not until Sat. but I got camera happy today. When I was downloading the pictures I saw that I had taken 110 today. I guess I was trying to capture every moment of today.
I will post more later. :)

Potty training and lightsabers!

It has worked so far. The lightsaber has seemed to do the trick with Ruben and getting him to poop in the potty. He seems to be potty trained after months and months of trying. I know there will may be accidents in the future, but I can deal with that. I only had to take the lightsaber away from him once. He lost it on Saturday for not pooping in the potty. Sunday he did go in the potty, so we gave it back to him. Since we bought the lightsaber on Thursday, he has not let it out of his sight. He even sleeps with it. I think it was a combination of finding something that he really wanted, the lightsaber, and him just being ready. I'm glad he is potty trained but I have to say it makes me a little sad. He is growing up so fast, too fast for me. He will be 4 in April, 4 years old! WOW, where has the time gone?

I just reread this post, I never thought I would be blogging about poop. Only parents will be able to understand that. :)

Marissa is still sick. We visited her pediatrician on Thursday, she seemed to be feeling better. The doctor said her ears looked a lot better. However, since Friday she has been running a fever between 102-103. She cries constantly and has been extremely clingy. She's not sleeping at night. Saturday night she slept in our bed for the first time since she was a week old and she probably will again tonight. She is also teething, getting her molars in, so that is not helping things. I will call the doctor sometime tomorrow but I am pretty sure he will just tell me to continue the meds and keep watching her.

Ruben's buddies Josh and Jake are coming over tomorrow for a play date. Marissa has hidden the batteries to my camera. Hopefully I can find them and get some pictures of the boys and the magical lightsaber. :)

Ruben was ill today

Poor little guy. He had a fever last night of 102 degrees. He didn't sleep well all last night. His fever dropped down to 101 but we still took him to his pediatrician. His pediatrician says he just has a virus and that we should keep his electrolyte's up. He's alright. I think he was happy that this visit to the doctor didn't end up with him getting an immunization shot. :-) Little does he know that appointment is next week.

He is taking a nap now. He's worn out. I think he's been asleep for about an hour and a half. We'll keep giving him his Tylenol and wish him well.
